DODA, June 18: Bhaderwah police arrested four drug peddlers and recovered large quantity of contraband and cash from their possession.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda Mohammad Shabir while interacting with media persons, here today.
He stated that, during late last night, a team from Bhaderwah Police Station laid a naka near Gupt Ganga Temple on Bhaderwah-Jai road and intercepted a Maruti Breeza car bearing registration number JK06-9717.
During checking, police recovered 1.02 kilograms of heroin, 150 grams cannabis and Rs 2.49 lakh cash from the possession of four persons traveling in the car and arrested them, SSP said, adding that the accused have been identified as Mehboob Ahmed Butt, son of Din Mohammad Butt and Irshad Ahmed, son of Nazir Ahmed Najar, both residents of Puneja Bhaderwah, Irshad Tantray, son of Ghulam Nabi Tantray, a resident of Anantnag and Nisar Ahmed, son of Abdul Kareem Ganai, a resident of Dhareja Bhaderwah.
SSP said that the arrested persons used to allegedly procured drugs from Kashmir and supply the same in Bhaderwah.
He appealed to the youth of the district to stay away from drugs and sought all sorts of co-operation from parents and other respectable of the society to come forward and be part of war waged against drugs.
SSP informed that a case under FIR Number 89/18 under Section 8/20/21/22/29 NDPS Act has been registered against the four arrested persons at Police Station Bhaderwah and further investigation is being conducted to pinpoint their contact persons in Bhaderwah through whom the deadly drugs are being peddled.
Police team led by Incharge SHO Bhaderwah Zaheer Iqbal made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Bhaderwah Touseef Ahmed, Additional SP Rajinder Singh and SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir.
