UDHAMPUR, June 23: Keeping in view the upcoming Amarnath Ji Yatra, a joint mock drill exercise was conducted to enhance the disaster preparedness for the smooth conduct of yatra by the district administration in support of Indian Army Unit, 10 Garhwal Rifles, SDRF at village Garnai in Udhampur under OP Megh Rahat here today.
The mock drill covered all the activities related to rescue victims and to launch operations for landslide, flood, accident and other eventualities during the yatra.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Ravinder Kumar said the main motive of holding such exercises is to bring synergy among the different managing teams and also evaluate the efforts being put in place by the district administration and other agencies for the smooth conduct of the yatra.
He emphasized upon the officers, rescue and operation teams to make coordinated efforts for successful conduct of Amarnath Ji Yatra. The exercise was aimed at ensuring better preparedness and coordination among agencies of defence and civil administration.
On the occasion, the security forces and civil agencies rehearsed all the drills of search and research causality evacuation followed by demonstration on first aid by the Army Medical Officer.
During the drill, the officers and rescue operation teams were sensitized about the precautionary measures being taken for averting any natural disaster.
The mock drill was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Krishan Lal, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Subash Dogra, ASP, Faisal Qureshi, besides senior officers of Army, SDRF and large number of civil society members were present on the occasion.
