SRINAGAR, June 23: About a dozen persons were injured in clashes during a search operation launched by security forces against militants in Kashmir today while militants fled during the cordon and search operations.
Seven persons were injured in clashes at Darumdore area of Shopian during a search operation against militants today.
A joint team of Army’s 44 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a cordon at Darumdore in Shopian district today. Scores of youth took to streets and pelted stones on the security forces which resulted into the clashes.
Security forces resorted to pellet and bullet firing besides using tear-smoke shells to disperse the protesters. A youth identified as Jehangir Ahmad Lone son of Bashir Ahmad Lone of Ashpora Shopian was injured after he was hit by a bullet and at least seven other persons suffered injuries due to pellets and tear smoke shells fired by the security forces.
Security forces intensified the combing operation in the village and suspended the internet service in the district. However, three militants who were believed to be trapped inside the village managed to escape. The operation was later called off.
And militants this evening abducted a man identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Seer at Check Amshipora Shopian. However, he was later let off and his cell phone was snatched.
Security forces launched an operation at Lone Mohalla in Logri Pora Zaingeer area of Sopore in North Kashmir today after they received information about militants hiding in the village.
Sources said that 22 RR of Army and Sopore police cordoned off the village and during searches two militants fled from the cordon. The operation was later called off.
In another incident, stone-pelting clashes erupted at Tawheedabad area of Hajin in Bandipora district this afternoon soon after a joint team of army, SOG and CRPF launched searches to trace out the militants in the area.
Security forces fired tear smoke and pellets to disperse the protesters. A youth Naseer Ahmad Parray of Parray Mohalla suffered injuries after a shell fired by security forces hit his hand. Four other youths also suffered injuries due to pellets or tear smoke shells.
