JAMMU, June 25: Quest for the best selfie led to a young boy and a girl slipping into Chenab River near in Akhnoor area of Jammu, today.
The youth, Sanjay (25) son of Jai Singh, a resident of Ban Ganga (Katra) and his sister, Sanjana (18) had come for a picnic on the bank of River Chenab at Jia Pota in Akhnoor town this evening when in an attempt to click a joint selfie from the best angle, they lost balance and fell into the river.
Soon after the incident, the police were informed and a team of local divers and police officials reached the spot. They started rescue operation and managed to fish out the body of the girl but could not find the body of the boy till late evening when search operation had to be suspended due to darkness.
SP Rural, Dushyant Sharma, said, “The incident took place at 6 PM today and as soon as the police came to know of the incident, they started rescue operation but could not save them. The body of the girl was recovered by the local divers but the body of the boy could not be located and the search operation was suspended at about 8:30 PM in view of darkness”.
He said SDRF has been requested through Police Control Jammu to depute a team for search operation of the boy to be started tomorrow morning.
