Chain snatching racket busted, kingpin arrested

JAMMU, June 29: Gandhi Nagar police busted chain snatching racket with the arrest of kingpin and recovery of gold chain worth Rs 1 lakh.
As per police sources, on June 4 this year, a complaint was lodged by Reena Hakku, wife of Pardeep Kumar Bhat of Sunjwan with Police Station Gandhi Nagar stating that one unknown boy snatched her gold chain when she had reached near the stairs of her United Bank of India office at Last Morh.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 131/18 under Section 382 RPC was registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, teams from Police Station Gandhi Nagar conducted raids in various areas and finally nabbed the accused, who happens to be the kingpin of chain snatching racket.
The accused has been identified as Harpal Singh, son of Narinder Singh of Thatriyan, Amritsar, at present Valmiki Colony Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
On his disclosure, snatched gold chain weighing around 3 tolas and valuing Rs 1 lakh was recovered.
Further questioning of the accused is going on to ascertain his involvement in other theft case and also to know other members of the racket.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by Incharge Digiana Police Post SI Kali Charan busted the racket and nabbed the accused under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
