Srinagar, June 29: Three militants including Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander were killed in an encounter at Chatpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today while a boy was killed in the clashes and scores were injured when residents pelted stones at the security forces during the operation. A militant was killed in Kupwara in a gun battle and three soldiers were injured in a grenade attack at Shopian in South Kashmir today.
A joint team of Army’s 55 RR, SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation following specific information about the presence of some militants at Thamuna village adjacent to Chatpora near main town Pulwama today.
As the security forces approached the house of Bashir Ahmad Wani where militants were hiding, they fired upon the troops leading to a gun battle.

As the news about the encounter spread, a large number of youth took to streets and tried to march towards the encounter site. However, security forces used smoke shells to disperse them. The youth pelted stones on the forces resulting into the clashes.
A boy was killed during the clashes while scores of youth suffered injuries in security forces firing during clashes near the encounter site at Thumna village adjacent to Chatpora.
The injured persons were shifted to nearby hospital where from one seriously injured boy namely Faizan Ahmad Khan son of Dr Abdul Gani Khan of Ladoo, Khrew area was referred to Srinagar hospital. However, Faizan later succumbed to his injuries.
The gun battle continued till evening and security forces blasted off the house killing all the three militants. They have been identified as LeT commander Abu Hanzala Firdos of Maspona Pulwama, Abu Mansoor Sajjad of Lassipora, Pulwma and Abu Tayyab Bilal of Chogal, Handwara. The security forces were yet to recover the bodies of the militants killed in the encounter.
And in the meantime, a militant was killed in an encounter in the forest area of Kachama in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night.
Army’s search party was fired at by a group of militants when they spotted them in the forest area last night at the upper belt of Kachama forests at Tunga Top in Kupwara district of North Kashmir.
The exchange of firing continued intermittently till morning. Body of a militant was recovered from the forests during searches.
Three Army personnel were injured when militants lobbed a grenade towards their patrolling party in Ahagam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Militants attacked Army party with a grenade followed by firing at Ahagam resulting in injuries to two Army men. The searches were launched in the area to nab the attackers. Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the grenade attack.
