SRINAGAR, July 1:  President Jammu Kashmir Bachao Tehreek and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said the whole valley was left at the brink of floods had the rains not stopped.
He blamed the PDP Government for failing to take preventive measures after the 2014 floods. He said if any flood fury hits Kashmir, its sole and whole responsibility will be on the PDP-BJP led Government which failed to de-silt the river bodies knowing the sensitivity of the grave issue.
Vakil said the funds which were to be utilized for the dredging of Jhelum and other flood channels were not spent and today we were again left at the God’s mercy.
“What the previous Government did in the last four years when it comes to dredging of Jhelum. We were again all set to face 2014 like fury if rain had not stopped,” Vakil said in a statement.
He said there are reports that the funds around 400 crore which were to be utilized for dredging of flood channels and river Jhelum had lately turned into a scam.
“Where had that money gone? Couldn’t we dredge Jhelum and other channels properly in the last four years,” he said.
Vakil asked the Governor N N Vohra led administration to take immediate steps on war footing basis so that floods are averted in near future.
He  said that questions arise about the 400 crore project to desilt Jhelum and expand the flood spill channels to increase the water carrying capacity.
Vakil said what was the PDP-BJP Government doing after the devastating floods of 2014.
“What happened to dredging of Jhelum? Where has the money gone?” he asked.
