JAMMU, July 2: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma today chaired a meeting to review the disaster management scenario in the districts and progress on construction of proposed Seema Bhawans in border areas.
The meeting was attended through video conference by Secretary, Department of Disaster Management, Talat Parvez Rohella, Deputy Commissioners of Jammu , Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Samba, Kathua, Poonch and Ramban districts besides Heads of Departments and senior functionaries of district administrations and concerned departments.
The Div Com took a detailed review of the disaster management scenario and assessed the damages occurred in the districts due to heavy rainfall. He asked the DCs and the concerned functionaries to reach out to the people and create awareness about disaster management at the grassroots level.
The Div Com instructed the DCs to factor in restoration of damages occurred due to classified natural calamities in additional plan for restoration and submit the report to the concerned authorities. The meeting also made recommendations for the inclusion of heavy rainfall, strong winds, drowning, and electrocution to be classified as disasters. Detailed discussion on EOCs was held during the meeting.
The Div Com also reviewed the progress on identification of sites for construction of Seema Bhawans in the border districts.
He asked the DCs to expedite the work on the project and identify the approachable sites for Seema Bhawans with adequate supply of electricity and water and sanitation facility.
The DC Jammu informed that a total of 16 sites have been identified for the Bhawans in areas of R S Pura, Khour, Marh and Bishnah.
The Div Com asked the DCs to personally visit the identified sites and ensure that they are free from any encumbrance . He also took a review of sanitation units built along the highways for Amarnath Yatris and directed the DCs to submit a detailed report of permanent and temporary sanitation units.
