JAMMU, July 5: Amidst speculations of horse trading to woo rival MLAs by political parties, activists of J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP) led by Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman JKNPP here today staged a protest demonstration demanding dissolution of Legislative Assembly.
The protesters accused the Central Government of proxy rule through the Governor and torched the effigy of BJP.
Talking to reporters, Harsh Dev said, “the bids of horse trading had made political parties jittery and they are struggling to keep their MLAs intact and rescue them from getting trapped into corrupt deals.”

He further said that ‘rat race’ for power had picked up momentum and has threatened the very essence of democracy. “While BJP is trying to break other parties, some of its opportunist members, who had earlier crossed floors during previous elections, are reportedly desperate to return to Congress realizing end of their Saffron career,” he maintained.
Alleging that prolonged suspension of the State Assembly is illegal and against all the constitutional precedents, Harsh Dev said, so far no political party or a plausible alliance had claimed to form the Government.
“In such a situation the dissolution of Assembly is inevitable and require immediate attention of the Governor and the President of India,” he added.
He said that NC, PDP and Congress had categorically conveyed their unwillingness to form the Government and advocated for fresh Assembly polls in the State.
“It was only BJP which is wriggling for power and exploring undemocratic opportunities by unfair practices to ascend the throne on the pattern of Goa, Meghalaya and Manipur and other States,” said Harsh Dev.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Rajesh Padgotra, Gagan Partap Singh, Shanker Singh Chib, Shakti Singh and others.
