Sham, Slathia inaugurate Veer Bhoomi Park

JAMMU, Dec 21: Minister for Floriculture,  Sham Lal Sharma in the presence of Minister for Industries & Commerce,  S S Slathia, today inaugurated the Veer Bhoomi Park at Samba.
The park has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.40 crore by the Floriculture Department over a land of 46 kanals.
Paying rich tributes to the martyrs/warriors of Samba district who laid down their lives while saving the boundaries of nation in different wars,  Sham Lal Sharma said that people of the State are indebted to their sacrifices and construction of park in their memory is an attempt to give them a simple tribute from the Government and people. He said the park will remind every visitor the supreme sacrifices made by the valor soldiers.
Highlighting the importance of the park, the Minister said that right from Lakhanpur to Jammu, there is no wayside facilities for the lakhs of pilgrims and tourists visiting the State and this park will prove a major source of soothing. He said that Government has formulated a well-knit plant to develop parks with all recreational facilities along the Lakhanpur-Jammu highway for the facilities of the pilgrims and tourists visiting the State by road. The Veer Bhoomi Park is also a step in this direction, said  Sharma.
The Minister directed the Director Floriculture to restore the full potential of the park and create more facilities for the attraction of people. He directed to develop a separate children’s corner, fountain near the memorial and eatery point in the park at the earliest.
Speaking on the occasion,  Slathia said that Samba is a land of valor soldiers who have contributed a lot for the nation. He said the district has produced many courageous soldiers including Brig. Rajinder Singh who showed extra ordinary courage while saving the borders of Jammu and Kashmir and sacrificed their lives. The construction of a park in their memory is the befitting tribute to these soldiers.
MLA Samba,  Yashpal Kundal also addressed the gathering and said that park was a long pending demand of the people of Samba which has been fulfilled with the best efforts of officers of Floriculture Department.
Chairman, JCC Bank Mohinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Samba  Mubarak Singh, Director Floriculture,  K.K.Sharma, ex-MLAs  Parkash Sharma,  Girdhari Lal Chalotra, Members of War Memorial Committee, Samba, Sarpanchs and Panchs, prominent citizens and heads of various departments were present on the occasion.
