KATHUA, July 12: In a tragic incident, two youth drowned in Ranjit Sagar Dam last night when they were taking the bath to beat the heat. The incident took place when two local youth of Basholi identified as Nikhil Kumar and Summit Kumar residents of W No 1. Basholi drowned into the deep water of dam while taking a bath, an eyewitness informed the police.
A police team and local people rushed for the rescue but it was too late and the bodies of both were not found anywhere.
A team of SDRF reached at Basholi and started operation to fish out the bodies. After hard efforts the body of Nikhil Kumar was found and handed over to family after post mortem. The search for second body is going on.
Meanwhile, the Army has also rescued three youth from drowning when they were trapped in deep water in dam at Basholi while they were taking bath today. The Army Jawans and local people sighted them and immediately swung into action and saved their lives.
The number of such incidents is increasing day by day and people taking bath in the dam do not bother for the water level and strong current of water in the dam. This way some people lost their precious lives after drowning in the dam.
Moreover, there is no arrangement of rescue teams or divers at Basholi to save precious lives. Even there is no team of Civil Defence or SDRF deputed at dam for precautionary measures. A large number of tourists are visiting to see the Atal Setu and enjoy the blue water of Ranjit Sagar dam.
It may be recalled that one person committed suicide by jumping into the dam yesterday and his body has also not been located so far.
