Guv to chair DDB Jammu meet on July 26

JAMMU, July 20: Governor NN Vohra will be visiting Jammu to preside over the District Development Board (DDB) meeting of Jammu on July 26 in which developmental work of the district will come up for a high-level review.
Though it will be only one-day visit of the Governor to Jammu, he will review all issues of border residents with Advisors and top brass of administration in Srinagar on July 27. He will also review problems of traffic, construction of Fly Overs, expansion of Jammu and Srinagar Airports and Master Plan of capital cities and major towns in the next few days during series of meetings lined up at Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, the summer capital of the State.
Official sources told the Excelsior that Vohra will preside over the DDB meeting of Jammu on July 26, which will be attended by all Advisors, top officials of civil administration, members of the Board including MPs and legislators belonging to Jammu district among others in which the developmental works already undertaken and proposed to be taken up would figure and decision taken on them.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta was the Chairman of the DDB Jammu in the previous PDP-BJP coalition Government. However, the DDB meeting of Jammu district for finalization of Annual Plan was chaired by Gupta’s predecessor, Dr Nirmal Singh.
The Governor could release some additional amount for Jammu district during the DDB meeting, sources said.
The Governor will also chair a meeting on July 27 in Srinagar to discuss the issues faced by the border residents. All concerned officers of the administration, besides the Advisors and the Chief Secretary, have been called to the meeting. Issues of the border people were being given top priority by the Central Government in view of Pakistan shelling and firing. However, there has been peace on both Line of Control (LoC) as well as International Border (IB) for the past more than a month barring few sniping incidents of soldiers.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had recently increased compensation for next of kin of Pakistan shelling and firing victims from Rs one lakh to Rs 5 lakh and that of killed cattle from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 and removed ceiling of compensation for three cattle only. Apart from this, the Union Home Ministry has already recommended construction of community and individual bunkers for the border dwellers at the cost of Rs 413.5 crore and `Seema Bhavans’.
The same day i.e. July 27, the Governor would also preside over the Governing Body meeting of the SKIMS.
Tomorrow, the Governor will hold review of encroachments in Urban, Rural, Forest areas, National Highways and water bodies.
Vohra will review traffic problems and construction of Fly Overs in Jammu and Kashmir and extension of night operations at Srinagar Airport and expansion of Jammu Airport in two separate meetings on July 24. Both the capital cities of the State have been facing acute traffic related problems and shortage of Fly Overs.
On July 28, Vohra will review Master Plan of capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar and major towns.
On July 31, the Governor will preside over Governing Body meeting of Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) and review functioning of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in two separate meetings.
