The leading literary figure Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri has come out with yet another new book in Urdu: Khaakashan, a collection of poetry. He has to his credit 32 books in Dogri, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi in various genres of literature and culture. He superannuated as senior Station Director of All India Radio and also bestowed with the honour of “Padam Shri”.
This 174- page book was released by the Governor, N N Vohra at a function held at Raj Bhavan, Jammu just before the Darbar Move to the Summer Capital, Srinagar.
The Governor had expressed a good word for Udhampuri for his multi-dimensional talent and service to the Indian literature for which he has won many laurels.
Fruitful Vision
Dr. Udampurri’s contribution to the literature include some of the publications like : The History of Dogri Literature, Geet Ganga, A Dewan of Gazals, Duggar Naama, Thehra hua Kohra, Dil Darvesh and Tanhaiyan in addition to a number of research articles and more than 250 Radio features. Some of his notable works have been translated into other languages like English, Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Nepali and Tamil. He is considered a trend-setter in modern Dogri poetry and has introduced several innovative themes and experimented with new styles in his verses.
Note the following stanza from the book under review:
Aarzoo hai yoo chale baad-e-saba,
Har taraf Chhaye Bahar-e-Gulstan.
Har kisi ke dil ko hasil ho Sukoon,
Zindgi har shhakas ki hoh Gul-fishan.
(I wish cool breeze blows every nook and corner of my motherland, where everyone feels safe and secure. Let everyone enjoy here life to the fullest.)
Fine poetry
The book entitled “Kahakashan” is well written in simple, stylish and chaste Urdu language, nicely produced, fine printing and is a welcome addition to the literature.
It is getting good response from the literary circles and also the general readership. It is expected that Dr. Udhampuri will make yet more contribution to our language, culture and literature in years to come.
