KARGIL, July 25: The second day of the Kargil Vijay Diwas started with briefing of various points such as Tiger Hill, Trishul Height, Tolloling top etc. where the war actually fought in 1999 from Lahmochan View Point at a height of 11,500 feet and there only the war veterans and serving war heroes briefed the media about their experiences during the war.
Army Commander, Northern Command Lt Gen Ranbir Singh while briefing about the war and it’s strategy it was informed that 30,000 personnel of Indian Army were engaged with close coordination and unified command during the war with the successful Operation Vijay and defeated the Pakistani Army.
Lt Gen (Retd) Mohindar Puri, who commanded 8 Mountain Division during the war, while taking to media told that the nation should remember the supreme sacrifice of those young officers and jawans who sacrificed their life to win the war in just 50 days and for remembering them we should not wait till Kargil Vijay Diwas their sacrifice should be remembered every day as they have given their youth for a safe and better tomorrow for us.
He further told that Kargil like situation cannot happen in future as we are so much prepared that the enemy cannot think of Kargil again.
Gen Puri remembering the contribution of the people of Kargil told that the contribution and support by the locals were uncountable and has a great role during the war.
While recounting his infield experience Col Dr Rajesh while pointing towards Batra Top told that being the first doctor to assist the jawans and officer on the battle ground itself was the moral support which he has given to the jawans and remembering those days and the heroes with which he fought like Captain Batra Param Veer Chakra etc gives a pleasure of eternity.
Later, in the evening ‘Shwet Ashwa Motor Cycle Expedition’ of the Military Police traveling a distance of 4500 km from Bangalore flagged in by the Lt Gen Ranbir Singh at Dras War Memorial.
Col Vikram the leader of the 7 member team told that the expedition started on July 3 and travelling through more than 5 states facing different situations and different terrains reached Drass to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas. He further told that the motive of the expedition was to encourage the youths to serve the country by joining Indian Army.
