JAMMU, July 29: The residents of Durga Nagar held a protest demonstration under the leadership of Roshan Lal Raina, president Welfare Committee and Sheela Handoo , BJP leader against deletion of names of the people in nine Municipal wards from voter lists.
The protestors raising slogans criticized the authorities for deliberately deleting the names of the displaced people from Valley from the voter lists by Municipal Corporation Jammu (MCJ).
They said that the people residing at a place for three decades can’t be denied the right to cast their vote in Municipal Corporation elections for the development of their areas.
They said the same was done on the behest of some political parties earlier who doubted that migrants will vote in favour of a particular political party and ensure its victory in the JMC elections. Terming it totally unfair and undemocratic Roshan Lal Raina and Sheela Handoo warned to intensify agitation and come to streets if the immediate steps were not taken to get the migrant voters enrolled in Municipal Corporation.
They said that the voters of Ward 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66 and 67 which were deleted despite the fact that they cast their votes during the municipal elections of 2005 should be immediately included in the electoral rolls. Others who addressed the protestors included Makhan Lal Bhat, Mandal president BJP, Satish Zutshi its general secretary, T N Bhat, State Executive Member, Ravinder Razdhan district vice president BJP (KDD) etc.
