LMD fines fast food restaurant for overcharging

JAMMU, July 30: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) has fined a fast food restaurant for overcharging.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Consumer Protection, acting on the complaint of a consumer for being overcharged on the pretext of chilling of soft drink at fast food restaurant opposite Wave Mall Cinema at Narwal, the Department of Legal Metrology conducted inspection of said restaurant by becoming a dummy consumer and found the complaint as genuine.
In the complaint, the complainant mentioned that the said trader was charging Rs 2 extra on sale of every soft drink bottle on the pretext of refrigerating the soft drink there by levying extra charging and selling it at Rs 12 instead of Rs 10, Prabhakar informed.
Inspector Rohit Gupta booked the trader and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 for overcharging and warned the trader to desist from such practices to cheat the gullible  consumers.
