Sir,
It has reference to news “Multi-crore Bullet proof scam in PHQ, money swindled” (DE July 12, 2018)
It is ironical to note that the people at the helm of agencies involved in combat of terrorism are compromising the protection of their own men for lust of money. The continuation of violence and uncertainty in Jammu Kashmir has become an earning machine for many individuals within the Government and outside.
In the given case, first of all, it took years together to the J&K Police to procure the bullet-proof body gear and when it was procured, it turned out to be below standard that doesn’t serve the purpose for which the money of the public exchequer has been pumped in. The issue raises a big question mark on the integrity, credibility and sincerity of the hierarchy in the police administration.
I remember faintly that two or three years ago there was fatal casualty of a security person who was supposed to be wearing the bullet proof. I was told by a person that it is very heavy to wear a bullet-proof jacket and for the purpose it is to be worn doesn’t serve for being sub-standard. Today, I find logic in his statement.
There is no doubt that J&K Police has to play a pivotal role in the fight against terrorism and maintenance of law and order. But it should not be misused to make their own fortunes by the officers while compromising the security of those innocent men who are to work at the ground zero.
To conclude, such sensitive cases need to be investigated thoroughly and taken to logical conclusion. It is imperative for restoration of faith in the investigating agencies and delivery of justice in itself.
