SRINAGAR, Aug 3: A delegation of members of Tour Operators’ Association of Kashmir (TOAK) met Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Advisor to Governor, here today and discussed various issues pertaining to development of adventure tourism in the State.
The delegation led by its president, Rauf Tramboo and comprising general secretary Muhammad Yusuf, Mehraj Din, Hakeem Mohammad Yousuf, Manzoor Joo, Firdous Khan, M Amin and M Ibrahim, presented him a memorandum highlighting various tourism related issues.
The impediments and issues pertaining to adventure tourism which TOAK members raised with the Advisor include implementation of SRO 198, exclusive promotions and publicity of recreational tourism products in domestic and international markets, enhancement of incentives for raising the adventure tourism infrastructure and equipment, single window clearance for the proposals submitted to Directorate of Tourism, expedite pending developmental proposals in Tourism Development Authorities, environmental degradation at tourist resorts, creation of soft adventure parks and many other relevant demands which could prove beneficial to the growth of adventure tourism in the State.
The Delegation informed Advisor that adventure tour operators are worst sufferers in tourism industry. Their investment is not secured. The TOAK members brought into Advisor’s notice the changing scenario of adventure tourism in the world. They said that this segment of tourism which is growing leaps and bounds around the globe has the highest potential in J&K with very high job creating avenues among the youth.
The Advisor gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured his full cooperation to revive adventure tourism in the State. He also issued on spot orders to convene an exclusive high level meeting with TOAK in which Secretary, Director Tourism and CEOs of different TDA will take part.
