Development of border areas

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Development of border areas Govt’s priority’ DE Dec 19.
It is worth appreciating that the Government is keen on developing border areas in the State. It may be mentioned here that these border belts have remained undeveloped in almost all fields. If one takes communication network into account, it is quite poor here.
There are no mettaled roads which could connect border belts with other parts of the country. Telecommunication facilities too are missing. At some places, towers have not come up as the region falls near Pak or China boundary while at other places telecom companies are not interested in investing in the required infrastructure as they do not consider it profitable.
The people there do not have access to quality education, or health care or drinking water. Even at this high-tech age, people have to walk long distances to fetch a bucket of water. The process not only consumes times but also a day’s labour.
Besides, there are no avenues for employment. People in these belts mostly depend on agriculture activities which do not bring them good dividends. To overcome this they move to urban areas to eke out a living.
This move hits them badly as it affects their family life. So, it is quite imperative that Government pays much attention to the welfare of border belts of the State.
Yours etc….
