Notorious bovines smuggler nabbed with Pak smuggled heroin worth Rs 44 lakh

JAMMU, July 30: Moving ahead with its mission to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Gandhi Nagar police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ unearthed a drugs trafficking racket operating from cross LoC by arresting a notorious bovines smuggler hailing from Kathua District along with Pakistan smuggled 110 grams heroin worth Rs 44 lakh in the international market.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station laid a naka near Chetri Chowk and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking as he was moving under suspicious circumstances.
Instead of stopping, the pedestrian escaped from the spot into a by lane. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted him after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 110 grams of heroin valuing Rs 44 lakh in the international market from the possession of pedestrian and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Sharief alias Bittu, son of Sain Din, a resident of Pali, Tehsil Hiranagar, District Kathua, a district along International Border in Jammu Province.
During preliminary questioning, the accused disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Kashmir, which was pumped in from Pakistan side for selling among the youth in District Kathua and its adjoining Samba and Jammu Districts after smuggling bovine animals from Jammu Province to Kashmir.
With his arrest, police not only smashed the drug trafficking racket operating from cross LoC, but also saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 180/18 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigation started to arrest other members of the racket.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by SI Sandeep Bhagat made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
