LEH, Aug 13: Strongly defending  Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution, which defines permanent residents of J&K and their special rights and privileges,  PDP Leh District president Tashi Gyalson today alleged that the Central  Government was wilfully not contesting the petition in an appropriate manner as done by the successive Governments in the past.
“People of J&K are being put to test time and again by one or the other excuses to suite some vested interest to benefit their political agenda, and it is high time now that once for all we need the stamp on the issue of 35-A by silencing the critics who are opposed to it and we hope that the Supreme Court will do justice with the people of J&K in safeguarding the Article 35-A,” he said while addressing a press conference, here today.
He stressed that Article 35-A was not only a question of Law but it also involves the sentiments and rights given at the time of accession with India and thus raising voice to safeguard it is not an anti national thing but a struggle to safeguard peculiar identity given to people of J&K by law. “Any kind of experiment to revoke the Article is like playing with fire which will be difficult to extinguish,” he warned.
Claiming that lack of political will in the past created vacuum and the people of Ladakh were forced to distance from the mainstream Kashmir politics, he said that the vacuum creates lots of doubts among people with some guanine reason and some others by the vested interest.
“Article 35-A is a shield to protect our identity and if tomorrow it goes places like Ladakh are  more vulnerable to get penetrated because of its high potential into tourism and neutral resources. Protecting Article 35A is to save the people of Leh and Buddhist community, culture and its heritage,” he said and added that it was  high time now that people  should introspect and fight for own  rights.
The press conference was also attended by nominated Councilor Rinchen Lhamo, Adv Mohd Nasir, senior leader from Leh, Ghulam Hussain Gulu, Sangay Dorjey Olden, Tsewang Dorjey Ompo, Stanzin Jordan Shunu, Adv Abdul Khaliq Baldar and lmran Gurdipa.
