Randhir demands hike in remuneration of Numberdars

KATHUA, Aug 13: A delegation of Association of Numberdars of Kathua led by its President, Prem Singh Jasrotia today met former Minister, Thakur Randhir Singh who is also J&K NCP chief.
Addressing the delegation Randhir Singh said that Numberdars form an important institution but they were neglected by the successive governments in Jammu and Kashmir.
He appealed to the Governor N.N Vohra to increase the remuneration of Numberdars to Rs 5000 per month so that they can also lead a life of dignity.
Randhir Singh said that institution of Numberdars is as old as the revenue administration.
“Numberdars do multitasking viz., as an enumerator of goings on and happenings in the village particularly recording of births and deaths, notifying disaster, mishaps or events of different hub mainly impinging on security and safety aspects,” he maintained.
The delegation members were Virender Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Kali Singh, Hakikat Sharma, Nirmal Singh, Nasib Singh, Jagdish Raj, Lal Chand and many others.
