POONCH, Dec 25: Dr Shenaz Ganai was given a warm and rousing reception at Poonch and Surankot, as she arrived here first time after winning the Legislative Council election.
Speaking on the occasion, she thanked all the Sarpanchs and Panchs and also the public in general for reposing their trust in her. “Had the blessings of almighty Allah and your support not been there, it would not have been possible for me to walk through the corridors of the Upper House as your representative,” she said and also gave credit of her victory to the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. She also thanked coalition partner leaders for supporting her and the party for making her candidature successful.
Dr Ganai promised that, all the promises made in the election manifesto, like honorarium to Sarpanchs and Panchs, Panchayat adalats, women empowerment etc will be fulfilled. She emphasized the workers to gear up for Local Body polls, adding that very soon the elections for the Block Development Council will also be held.
Stressing that the issues of general public will be given first priority, she assured to highlight people’s grievances in the Upper House.
The MLC stressed the need to work collectively cutting across the party lines so that people of the border district may get benefited. Dr Ganai said that she being the local, understands the problems of the people.
Earlier, the people received her at Sathra 20 kms ahead of Poonch and escorted her upto the main venue in the convey of over 100 vehicles.
