JAMMU, Dec 25: Crime Branch has registered a case against six persons including the then Girdawar Qanoongo (presently Assistant Chief Electoral Officer) for indulging in cheating and grabbing the land by resorting to fraudulent means.
The accused persons are Jai Kumar, the then Girdawar Qanoongo (presently Assistant Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu), Patwari Roshan Lal, Parmanand, son of Agya Ram, Ramesh Chander, son of Daulat Ram, Bittu, son of Shanker Dass, Bihari Lal, son of Shanker Dass and Phumani, son of Shanker Dass, all the residents of Kote, district Jammu.
According to the Crime Branch spokesman, the case against accused persons was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Joginder Singh of village Kot in the court of First Additional Munsiff (Forest) Jammu.
In the complainant, it has been alleged that accused persons namely Parmanand, Ramesh Chander, Bittu, Bihari Lal and Phumani in connivance with the revenue officials namely Jai Kumar, the then Girdawar Qanoongo (now Assistant Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu) and Patwari Roshan Lal manipulated the revenue records in order to grab the land and debar the complainant and his family from rightful possession of the land in terms of Girdawri of 1971.
Acting on the complaint, Crime Branch initiated preliminary verification during which it came to fore that tampering of the revenue record and subsequent correction in Parat Patwar was affected by the then Girdawar Qanoongo Jai Kumar in connivance with Patwari Roshan Lal and other revenue officials to dislodge the complainant from his proprietary land and to give benefit to the other accused persons by sheer misuse of their official position for extraneous considerations.
On the basis of preliminary verification, Crime Branch has registered a case and started further investigation.
