KATHUA, Aug 18: Scores of students including tiny tots from hamlets of Kodal, Nagali, Siayalag and Bhikkar in Basholi tehsil of Kathua district have to cross deep waters of Jilu nullah on foot at the cost of their lives especially during the rainy season when the nullah is in spate to reach their school which is situated across the nullah in village Bhikkar.
The people especially the parents of the students are worried for the lives of their children during the rainy season as they fear worst. Their pleas to authorities regarding construction of bridge over the river have fallen on deaf ears as the officers as well as public representatives did not pay any attention to the growing demand from the villagers.
The students studying in Government High School Bhikkar including tiny tots cross the nullah daily to reach the school on the risk of their lives. The risk becomes grave in rainy season and villagers have to come out for the help of their children in crossing the nullah.
According to Joginder Singh, Balaji Ram and Krishan Chand the parents of the students “we are celebrating the Independence every year but no body considered this area for development over the years and the result is before you”. “The Government is spending liberal funding in urban areas but no politician, MLA, Minister or any member from administration bothers to takes the construction of a small bridge over this nullah seriously”.
They said the villagers approached every one in administration but no one took their genuine demand seriously. The fake promises are made by politicians as these promises are never fulfilled. The matter is not concerning to students only but the morahas adjoining the Bhikkar village need road connectivity and the bridge to connect these villages with other parts of the region.
The villagers alleged that the PMGSY is only for the areas where highly influential people live and the people having no influence and say in political circles or the Government remain neglected and deprived as no one bothers for development of their areas, said the residents of the area.
