JAMMU, Aug 21: A two-day workshop on “Methods of Market Identification and Export Opportunity Assessment”, concluded at International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu, here today.
The resource person for the workshop was Dr Debashis Chakraborty from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Kolkata. The workshop was conducted with the objective of familiarizing the participants with the global export scenario and the role of exports in India’s economic growth. The workshop also aimed at developing an export orientation amongst the participants.
Across the two days, Dr Debashis provided an extensive outline of the several methods that can be adopted for the purpose of export market identification that are best-suited for potential export opportunities. He trained the participants to determine realistic export opportunities in terms of country-product combination and enabling them to comprehend the kind of decision support models that need to be chosen for application of a screening process of four consecutive filters, through which relevant information on markets (such as country risk indicators, macroeconomic data, imports per product group, etc.) can be extracted.
Dr Debashis presented an analysis of export competition of Indian products vis-à-vis competitor countries. He also explained about the export growth in the global markets during the sessions.
During the valedictory session, Professor Dipanker Sengupta, Dean Student Placements, JU, was the chief guest. He explained upon the need to understand why exports and imports are important for the growth and development of national economies. He deliberated that such training can facilitate in raising the understanding of the prospective export professionals on export processes, international trade issues, international trade cycles and recognize true export opportunities.
Earlier during the programme, Professor Deepak Raj Gupta, Director, ICccR & HRM, JU, said the holistic and extensive training that was imparted to the students across the two days shall enable in developing an export orientation in them.
The workshop was attended by the students of MBA (International Business) Programme, students of PGDCCM Programme, research scholars at ICccR & HRM and Department of Commerce, JU, and the faculty at ICccR & HRM, JU.
