JAMMU, Dec 26: In order to inculcate sense of road safety and bring awareness among the road users, Traffic Police Jammu is celebrating Road Safety Week from January 1, 2013. Slogan for this 24th Road Safety Week would be “Stay Alive, don’t drink and drive”.
This was disclosed by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Traffic Jammu Range, Shakeel Ahmed Beig here today. He said that the aim would be to inspire the people, especially road users to know the merits of road safety and causes of accidents.
Mr. Beig said that during the week breath analyzers and alco-meters would be used to carry out tests of drunken drivers to measure the alcohol content in their blood. He said that it should be realised by all drivers, motor cyclists and pedestrians that road safety is the responsibility of every members of the society.
The DIG said that during this awareness campaign different activities would be held in all districts of the Jammu Province to create awareness among the drivers and commuters. These activities would include road safety announcements on major signals, precautions to be adopted while plying on the roads of hilly and accident prone areas, penal discussions on radio and television, workshops for passenger drivers, seminars and rallies, besides movies highlighting the importance of road safety.
