KISHTWAR, Dec 27: Disengaged GREF laborers today held a strong protest outside DC office Kishtwar and also staged a dharna there.
They were protesting against their disengagement from the job by the GREF authorities, executing construction work on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Srinagar National Highway. The agitating GREF workers demanded incentives as per the labor laws.
Pertinent to mention that GREF authorities at Kishtwar disengaged nearly 1100 laborers from job who were working with the organization for the last 18-20 years.
The agitating laborers condemned the GREF authorities for their disengagement during winter season and termed the move of Commanding Officer 118 RCC GREF Kishtwar as in human. Stating that with disengaging, their family members were at the verge of starvation, they threatened to lodge an agitation in case their demands are not meted out. They gave an ultimatum of one week to the GREF authorities to redress their grievances or face an agitation.
The dharna was lifted after the intervention of former Minister and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori alongwith Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Saleem Mohammad Chowdhary. They assured that their issue will be take up with the Labor Minister as well as with the Chief Minister for viable solution.
