JAMMU, Dec 28: Reviewing various forest development projects and schemes under execution in Mahore at a high level meeting today, Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmed said that all the available resources will be mobilized to spread the forest cover in the area.
The Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik, Director Soil Conservation, Upender Pachnanda, Regional Wild Life Warden, Asif Mahmood, Conservator of Forests, R. S. Jasrotia and other officers of Forest Department were also present in the meeting.
Responding to the demands projected by Abdul Gani Malik, who is also MLA of the area, Mian Altaf asked the officers of Forest Department to explore all possibilities for developing a modern environment-cum-amusement park at Mahore. He directed the officers and field agencies of Soil Conservation Department to bring all soil erosion prone areas of Mahore especially Kotli, Kabalan, Shakari, Tuli, Bana and Devota areas under massive plantation to minimize the soil erosion in the area. He called for wide aforestation of all the closures in Shergali, Seela, Tuksan areas of Mahore with special focus on construction of water harvesting tanks in rain fed and kandi pockets of Mahore.
The Minister enjoined upon the forest officers that before planning any new forest scheme or project for the area, the local MLA should be consulted for his suggestions. He directed them to make new projects for conservation of green belt of the area so that funds for the purpose are arranged.
