JAMMU, Aug 25: Fed up with the repeated assurances, the residents staged protest against Public Works Department (PWD) and blocked the vehicular movement for couple of hours at Karan Bagh area near Satwari today.
The protesters led by Ex-Sarpanch Gurmeet Kour assembled at Karan Bagh near Satwari and held protest. Amid slogans against PWD authorities, the protestors blocked the vehicular movement on Jammu-RS Pura road.
The protestors stated that it is very unfortunate on the part of the PWD authorities that they are forcing the people to come on roads to get the construction of roads done. “It seems that PWD officers are spoiling the image of the Central Government headed by Narendra Modi, who is keen of provide road connectivity to each and every village across India”, they added.
“We are facing lot of inconvenience in commuting to and fro with the damaged roads from Chatha Mini-Bus stand to Khandwal and FCI Store to Raipur Satwari, which are really in a shabby condition. The roads are also not worth for old people to commute.
She informed that the aforesaid roads are in worst condition for the past three years and the issue also stands taken up with the concerned officers of the PWD, but nothing has been done till date, which forced them to come on road and block the road.
“As monsoon season is going on, people especially school going children and senior citizens are suffering a lot, but PWD seems least bothered towards the problems being faced by the people”, she added.
Ex-Sarpanch appealed to the Governor to intervene into the matter and get the construction work of the aforesaid roads done on priority basis, so as to provide succor to the residents.
After getting information, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kulbhushan Khajuria and police contingent led by Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar rushed to the spot to pacify the protestors, but people remained adamant and continued their protest.
Later, AEE PWD Sandeep Gupta reached the spot and assured the protestors of redressing their issue related to the construction of roads on priority basis. Superintending Engineer (SE) PWD also talked to Ex-Sarpanch Gurmeet Kour on phone and assured redressal to their grievances.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the Jammu-RS Pura road.
