JAMMU, Dec 29: Sat Pal Deol’s three-day exhibition of more than 40 canvases and drawings that opened at the Kala Kendra, here today, deserves appreciation for being a creative statement marked with originally and innovation.
Inaugurated by Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Tourism & Culture, the exhibition—in contrast to the run of the mill shows of hobbyists and Sunday painters mostly comprising of copy work done in realistic idiom—emerges as symphony of subtle forms and images that emanate from artist’s meditative response to his surroundings.
A true heir to the school of abstraction, which boasts of acclaimed Jammu artists like late Vijay Gupta, Vijay Saraf, Rakesh Kumar et al, Sat Pal Deol is one of the few creative painters and master colorist in the State who is almost regularly exhibiting his latest works.
One of the highlights of the exhibition held in collaboration with Cultural Academy is that along with his canvases done in acrylic, Sat Pal Deol has also displayed early drawings to give an idea to the general public about his process of visualization.
Complimenting upon the high quality of Sat Pal Deol’s artistic creations, Rigzin Jora, said that creativity in any form deserves appreciation. He described art and artists as precious assets and said Government was committed to encourage local talent and help it to achieve excellence.
Those present on the occasion included well-known artists like Rajendra Tiku, T S Batra, Arvind Gupta, Milan Sharma, K K Gandhi and Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy, Saujanya Sharma, Executive Director, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society and Kala Kendra.
