SRINAGAR, Dec 29: Chairman moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said that proposals and formulas put forward for the solution of Kashmir issue should be discussed on table by India and Pakistan along with Kashmiris so that some solution is found to the Kashmir issue.
“Over the years many prospective solutions, formulas and suggestions have come forward vis-à-vis Kashmir issue and its solution. There is no harm in discussing these but the condition is that people of Kashmir are taken on board. The four point formula as put forward by former Pakistan President General Parvez Musharraf can also guide us and this too can be discussed,” said Mirwaiz while addressing a press conference here today.
He exuded confidence that dialogue between India and Pakistan would help in breaking the ice on Kashmir issue. He stressed upon the need for inclusion of Kashmiri leadership in the talks adding that aspirations of people should be given top most priority.
“Distance and differences between the two neighbouring countries can be narrowed by permitting people to move to both the sides freely and have people to people dialogue. Softening of borders should take place so that people on either sides of Line of Control move without hassles and restrictions,” said Mirwaiz.
Describing CBMs as a good toll for the betterment of both the countries and a step ahead for the welfare of the area and its people, he said that CBMs can be successful when both India and Pakistan arrive on a consensus.
Terming his faction’s visit to Pakistan as successful, Mirwaiz said that Kashmiris are not against improved relations between Pakistan and India adding that this should not happen at the cost of the Kashmiri people. He said the atmosphere has to be made conducive for dialogue between the two countries involving Kashmiri leadership.
