Various migrant delegations call on Vyas, highlight problems

JAMMU, Sept 4: Various delegations of Kashmiri Pandits today called on Advisor to Governor, B B Vyas and highlighted the various issues of displaced people before him.
A delegation of All India Migrant Camps Coordination Committee (AIMCCC) led by its president Desh Rattan called on Advisor and handed over a memorandum to him demanding sanction of four bore wells for Jagti township as the inmates of the township are facing acute scarcity of drinking water and the authorities over the years have failed to solve this burning problem.
They said that with the construction of bore wells on pattern of erstwhile camps of Mishriwala , Purkhoo etc the drinking water problem of the township will be solved. B B Vyas issued on spot instructions to Chief Engineer, PHE for construction of bore wells in township.
The delegation also demanded that the small migrant contractors be also given the contracts in Relief Organization so that they too can earn their living. It demanded 70 per cent works be kept for migrant contractors in Relief Department.
Another delegation of Durga Nagar Welfare Committee led by Roshan Lal Raina its president called on Advisor and expressed grave concern over prevailing power cuts in Durga Nagar area. It demanded that the power curtailment be stopped up to September 15 at least so that the people are not put to hardships in this humid and hot temperature. The delegation said the power curtailment has also hampered water supply in the area and added to sufferings of people. It also demanded that R-2 Feeder which is overloaded be balanced so that tripping of Feeder may not take place. It demanded opening of dispensary at Durga Nagar and instruction be given to Municipal Commissioner to provide electric items to replace the damaged lamps. It also apprised Advisor that the names of migrants have been deleted from electoral rolls which should be inserted in the same.
BJP senior leader, Sheela Handoo also called on Vyas and submitted a memorandum to him expressing her dismay over the deletion of names of displaced Pandits from voter lists of JMC.
Terming it a denial of fundamental rights, granted under Article 326 of the Indian Constitution , the memorandum said Part X Section 140 clearly states, that “every person who is a permanent resident of the State and is not otherwise disqualified under this Constitution or any law made by the Legislature shall be registered as a voter”
She also made references to J&K Representation of Peoples Act 1957 in this regard and demanded that the names of displaced Pandits living here for last 29 years and paying all the dues to JMC be included in voter lists.
