RAMBAN, Sept 6: Banihal police arrested a drugs peddler and recovered 25 kilograms of poppy straw from his possession.
As per police spokesman, on reliable information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka near T Chowk and intercepted a pedestrian, who was carrying a gunny bag.
During checking, police recovered 25 kilograms of poppy straw from the gunny bag being carried by the pedestrian and arrested him.
The accused has been identified as Gurvinderjeet Singh, son of Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Village Gudwali, District Jalandhar.
During preliminary questioning, the accused disclosed that he had brought the consignment from District Anantnag and was smuggling it to Jalandhar.
A case under FIR Number 149/18 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
