SAMBA, Sept 14: With an objective to empower women for a better future with financial security and to bring along a healthy change in mindset of the society for greater acceptance of girl children, the District Administration today celebrated Ladli Beti Divas at Samba fort.
District Development Commissioner, Sushma Chauhan, who is also the Chairperson of District Level Task Force for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, was the chief guest on the occasion. She was accompanied by SSP, Dr Kaushal Kumar and Additional District Development Commissioner, Pankaj Magotra.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC asked the people to change their mindsets regarding daughters and ensure that all girl children get nurtured in such a way that empowerment of mind and body starts from infancy.
The DDC also announced incentives for ASHA workers on reporting about sex determination in the district. She further said that sex ratio of the district although showing improvement with the upward trend needs more investment in terms of vast outreach of the several welfare schemes to the eligible beneficiaries.
During the programme, the DDC felicitated ten meritorious girl students from various Government run schools, for excellent results in class 10th and 12th, namely, Kriti Singh, Tania Sharma, Arushi Slathia, Preeti Suntal, Milli Slathia, Jaswinder Kour, Manu Sharma, Ridhiksha Arora, Tania Sharma and Sonali Verma, with Certificate of Merit along with dictionaries and set of stationery items to motivate them towards excellent results in future endeavours.
The DDC also handed over the passbooks and baby kits to six mothers of newly born babies under Ladli Beti Scheme.
The event also witnessed cultural programme by local folk artists who creatively portrayed, through songs and skits, the changing times wherein the girls and boys both need to work towards a better future holding equal opportunity for both boys and girls.
