REASI, Sept 14: To register protest over alleged kickbacks in Rafale deal and increased fuel prices, a strong rally was organized by District Congress Committee Reasi, led by MLA Ijaz Ahmed Khan, MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and senior Congress leader Jugal Kishore Sharma, here today.
The rally started from newly opened Congress Office in Nai Basti and passed through Main Bazar to Bus Stand Reasi where road was blocked for almost one and a half hour amidst raising of slogans against Central Government.
While addressing the protest rally, Jugal Kishore Sharma accused Modi Government of keeping the country in dark over the cost of Rafale fighter and questioned BJP-led Government for procuring each plane at a cost of over Rs 1,670 crore against Rs 526 crore finalized by the previous UPA Government.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lied to the country by keeping it in the dark over the Rafale deal. The agreement has no clause requiring the Government to keep the price of
the deal hidden, but only the technicalities of the fighter jets. The Government is trying to hide a scam worth Rs 41,000 crore,” he alleged.
Jugal Kishore Sharma also criticized MLA Reasi for not favouring Mother Child Hospital in Reasi town and misleading locals. He also raised many local issues of Reasi constituency which the incumbent MLA has allegedly failed to solve during BJP Government in State.
While speaking on the occasion, MLA Ijaz Ahmed Khan drew attention towards the sky rocketing petrol prices and said that it was severely affecting each and everything that people use in their day to day life. “The Central Excise duty has been hiked 12 times since BJP came to power. Most states are ruled by the BJP, but they have not bothered to decrease the VAT on Petrol/Diesel,” he said and reiterated the demand for bringing petrol and diesel under GST.
MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan also addressed the rally, after which the Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to President of Indian through ADDC Reasi.
State Sewa Dal chief Rajesh Sadhotra and Distt Congress president Kewal Singh were prominent among those who attend the rally.
