One dies, two receive burn injuries as high tension wire falls on them

JAMMU, Sept 15: An elderly man was killed and two others were injured when they came in contact with a high tension wire in Pargwal area of city outskirts.
The incident happened today at about 3.45 AM at N S Pura village in Pargwal area of Khour, which sparked protests by the locals against the Power Development Department.
According to police sources, a high-tension (1100 KV) electric wire got snapped from a pole and fell down on Pritam (70) son of Goli Ram, who was drinking water from a hand pump. Pritam died on the spot while two others namely Rajni Devi (24) wife of Ashok Kumar and Nisha (17) daughter of Rattan Kumar, received severe burn injuries in the incident.
“A cow was also killed due to electrocution while an animal shed (kulla) made of wooden logs and thatch caught fire and reduced to ashes,” they said, adding the angry villagers held a strong protest against PDD, demanding registration of FIR against the department, adequate compensation and Government job to the family of the deceased and free treatment to the injured persons.
A police team from police station Khour led by SHO, Joginder Singh rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesters but all in vain. Later, SDM Khour, Devinder Bhagat, SDPO Akhnoor, Munish Anand, concerned XEn of PDD and Tehsildar reached the spot and tried to persuade the protesting locals. On the assurance of the XEn PDD that a Government job will be provided to one of family members of the deceased, besides Rs 3 lakh compensation, and after registration of FIR against PDD, the protesting villagers dispersed.
According to police sources, after postmortem at PHC Pargwal, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites while the injured persons were undergoing treatment there.
They said that a case FIR No 71/2018 under Sections 304,336,337/304 RPC has been registered against PDD at police station Khour and further investigations started.
