GMC conducts ‘Trauma Mgmt Course’ for 20 PG students

JAMMU, Sept 15: The Government Medical College, Jammu conducted three days Initial Trauma Management Course (ITMC), which concluded today.
Objective of the course was to train the Post Graduate students, Department of Surgery, Orthopedics and Anesthesia about the management of trauma in emergency.
Trauma especially road traffic accidents is one of the most common cause of death in India mostly affecting the young population between 15 – 35 years of age. As per National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) about 1.5 lakh deaths occur every year in India due to road traffic accidents. The GMC Jammu receives large number of patients related to road traffic accidents on a daily a basis.
During the course, 20 PG students from Department of Surgery, Orthopedics and Anesthesia were trained to manage trauma in emergency. They also prepared the hospital disaster management plan both for GMC Jammu and SMGS. The course was accredited for 12 credit hours by the J&K Medical Council.
Dr. Sunanda Raina, Principal/ Dean, Government Medical College, Jammu interacted with the trainees during the valedictory session and expressed her happiness on the outcome of the course. She asked the trainees to utilize their acquired knowledge and skills in the management trauma in emergency room for the betterment of trauma patients.
She said that GMC Jammu is well equipped to manage any major disaster and it is her endeavour to train maximum doctors in managing trauma. She distributed the certificates of participation among the participants and trainers.
Dr Anita Vig, Dr Kailash Singh, Dr Bias Dev and Dr Shruti Gupta were the trainers for the course, who were assisted by Dr Khurshid Iqbal from the ICRC.
