‘Cong to take final call on ULB polls shortly’

JAMMU, Sept 15: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee has said that party would take the final call in a couple of days and announce its decision with regard to the just announced ULB polls.
Reacting to the announcement of the polls, JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that party would take a call keeping in view of the security situation and the overall interests of the people of the State.
He said that Congress being a national party is aware of its role and responsibility and has always worked to strengthen the grass root institutions of democracy in the sensitive state and it was the result of its struggle that 73rd and 74th amendments were incorporated in the state laws.
However , the security situation continues to be grim in several parts of the state especially Kashmir valley posing challenge to the free, fair and fearless conduct of polls apart from unrest over some sensitive issues and there was atmosphere of uncertainty and confusing signals from Govt quarters regarding holding of polls.
In view this, the party asked the Govt to come out clear on the issue including the measures for creation of appropriate security and political atmosphere for the smooth conduct of polls.
Since the Govt has finally announced the holding of polls, the party would take a final call in a couple days keeping in mind the overall situation and the broader interest of the people of the state, the chief spokesman added.
