JAMMU, Sept 16: On 18th day of their ongoing indefinite chain hunger strike, members of Teachers’ Joint Action Committee (TJAC) today took out a protest march towards Governor House for 7th Pay Commission to SSA teachers and de-linking their salary from Central source of funding.
However, Police foiled the attempt and dispersed the protesters when they reached near Indira Chowk. Some of the protesters received minor injuries in scuffle with Police while a number of them courted arrest.
Earlier, hundreds of teachers from all the ten districts of Jammu province assembled near Press Club Jammu under the banner of TJAC, which is an amalgam of J&K ReT Teachers Forum, J&K Teachers Forum, J&K SSA Teachers Forum, Tehreek-e Rehbar-e Taleem Association etc. The protest was organized under the leadership of State president JKRTTF Vinod Sharma, Sr vice chairman Najam Jafri, State vice president Gulzabir Daing and others.
Holding placards in their hands and shouting slogans in favour of their demands, they marched towards Governor House. Even as Police personnel deplo-yed out side the Press Club tried to stop them, the protesting teachers managed to reach Indira Chowk and blocked vehicular traffic there for some time.
As Police did not allow them to move further, the protesting teachers, including some females, courted arrest and in the melee, a few of them sustained minor injuries. The detained teachers were shifted to District Police Line Gandhi Nagar Jammu and released after some time.
Meanwhile, ongoing indefinite chain hunger strike of TJAC at Press Club Jammu and Srinagar entered into 18th and at 14th consecutive day, respectively. The TJAC also held an emergency meeting, here today and appealed the Governor as well as his Advisors to resolve their issues by immediately implementing 7th Pay Commission at once to avoid any more confrontation.
TJAC also threatened to further intensify the ongoing stir if the Government does not concede their demands.
