JAMMU, Jan 12: The students and activists under the banner of Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha today held a protest demonstration at Raj Bhawan to press for their long pending demands including hostel facility and distribution of timely scholarships for the students of ST community.
Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, State president of Mahasabha, who led the protest, alleged that the students of ST community are not getting timely scholarships due to which their studies are suffering a lot. He also alleged that there is large scale bungling in the disbursement of scholarships which the students have been receiving since 1991. He demanded a proper inquiry into the matter.
Alleging that the ST community has been totally ignored in the New Recruitment Policy, he stressed that the students of the community should be given due share in the policy.
Meanwhile, he also demanded that the ST students should be given coaching in the premier coaching institutes across the country so that the downtrodden and backward students of community can get coaching to prepare themselves for competitive exams like IAS, KAS, IPS and other competitive exams.
Protesters demanded that the decision of inter-district recruitment should be reviewed as the seats reserved for the ST community are falling under open category.
Student leaders of BGMS including Yasir Paqrvez, Saleem Ahmed Ch, Mukhtar Ahmed, Waqar Ahmed, Mehmood Lodhi, Mohd Liaqat and others were present on the occasion.
