1400 Kgs of polythene seized

JAMMU, Sept 26: To check the entry of banned items into the State, the sleuths of Excise Department foiled two such attempts in the intervening night of September 25 and 26 at Excise Minor Toll Posts, Kotepunnu and Mandi respectively.
According to reports a Mahindra Bolero bearing Registration No.PB32A-0257,  was put to physical check by Shadi Lal and Rajesh Singh Excise Sub Inspectors, Shakeel Ahmed, Excise Head Guard and Balbir Excise Guard after it reported at the Toll Post Kotpunnu for clearance. During the checking the vehicle was found loaded with approximately 1400 Kgs polythene covered under vegetables. The vehicle along with the banned polythene has been seized for further disposal by Pollution Control Board (PCB).
In another incident, a Mahindra  Bolero vehicle was also found loaded with undeclared fresh fruit beneath vegetables during checking at Mandi Mandikeran by Vipin Slathia, Excise Sub Inspector and Mohinder Kumar, Excise Guard and a fine of Rs.6600 was realized from the defaulters for resorting to toll evasion.
The Excise Department in a handout said that the smugglers have adopted different methods of smuggling of polythene into the State and evasion of Toll on high tax items, but the excise sleuths have repeatedly thwarted their attempts by enhancing the vigil on ground and by developing a strong network of information gathering.
The whole operation was supervised by Deputy Excise Commissioner, Ashish Kumar Gupta and carried out by Excise & Taxation Officers, Abhishake Abrol and  Varinder Gupta, along with  Excise Inspectors Dheeraj Kumar and Khalid Manhas along with Excise Sub Inspectors Kanwaljeet Shan and Sheikh Touseef.
Talat Parvez Rohella, Excise Commissioner, has enjoined upon the Excise sleuths to carry on their special drive to thwart the nefarious designs of all these elements in future also.
