JKSPA seeks rationalization of annual premium of GMIS

JAMMU, Sept 26: J&K State Pensioners Association (JKSPA), in a communication to the Principal Secretary Finance, has sought that the annual premium for pensioners opting for Group Mediclaim Insurance Scheme (GMIS) be rationalized (reduced) to make it affordable for all the pensioners so that all of them opt for this facility.
Krishan Singh, president of JKSPA said that the State Government has launched this policy in the State compulsory for employees and optional for pensioners and other sections of employees with effect from October 1, 2018. He said that annual premium prescribed for pensioners at Rs 22,228 per annum is too high for the poor pensioners.
He said that publication of salient feature of GMIS at this late stage has no meaning. It may however be stated here that the pensioners in old age suffer for multiple types of time consuming and serious ailments as such they direly need adoption of this mediclaim insurance policy to make their living a bit comfortable. He sought rationalization of the annual premium affordable to the poor pensioners.
Moreover, he said that discontinuation of medical allowance to subscribers of this policy is quite unfair as medical allowance is granted to the employees and pensioners to enable them to meet their bare minimum medicare needs which may not fall under the ambit of GIMS.
JKSPA also referred to the exercising of option by the pensioners to avail the benefit under formulation II of Government Order No 222-F of 2018, stated that it is learnt that the cases of Pre-2009 pensioners are getting delayed as the office of Accountant General has yet not developed the software for this purpose while as the cases of post-2009 pensioners have since been dealt with smoothly.
