Chana supplied to ICDS centers of Block Pallanwala found sub-standard

JAMMU, Sept 27: The whole lot of Chana (gram) supplied by a Srinagar based firm to ICDS centres of Block Pallanwala of Jammu district has been found substandard by the Food Safety Wing of Drug and Food Control Organization.
According to the reports, Food Safety Officer of Block Pallanwala, Zulfkar Ali, on August 20 lifted sample of the Chana from one of the ICDS centres of Block Pallanwala, which was supplied by a private firm of Srinagar.
Accordingly, the sample of Chana was sent to food testing laboratory of Jammu province for checking its quality standards and further analysis by Sumit Singh, Food Analyst, who after doing all quality tests in his report declared the sample as sub-standard.
“The sample does not conform to the standards prescribed for Chana under Regulation No 2.4.6.(9) of Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations 2011 in respect of ‘Weevilled grains and damaged grains’. Hence it is declared as sub-standard”, reads the report of the Food Analyst.
The report received from Food Analyst was sent to Mission Director, ICDS and Commissioner, Food Safety, who have lodged a case against the supplier of Chana in the court of Additional District Magistrate, Jammu, who is competent to hear such matters.
When contacted, Mission Director, ICDS, Veerji Hangloo, said that after outcome of the report of the Food Analyst, the case has been referred to ADC Jammu. He said the action against erring supplier will be taken as per the law.
