Ensure no harassment to nomads: Ch Khatana

JAMMU, Sept 28: Choudhary Nazakat Khatana, State president, Gujjar Bakarwal Desh Tehreek-e-Insaaf has appealed the Governor administration to ensure that no harassment is done to nomads, who are now moving from higher reaches to plains of Jammu, by forest officials or any other.
Addressing a press conference here today, Choudhary Nazakat Khatana said that in the recent past, nomadic tribal people i.e. Gujjar and Bakarwals have to face harassment in the hands of official machinery as well as some miscreants in the society in various parts of Jammu region.
He said with the advent of winter season, these nomads are now moving from hilly areas to plain areas of Jammu region, as per routine and appealed Governor to pass directions to the Forest department and police department to ensure that these tribal people are not harassed in any circumstances.
Choudhary Khatana also appealed the administration to curb drug addiction, which has increased many fold in past few years among youth under the influence of which they committed many crimes, like gambling, theft, etc. He asserted that strict action should be taken against drug smugglers.
