1,000 kgs poppy straw, 3.5 kgs cannabis seized in one & half month, 5 arrested

RAMBAN, Sept 28: In a major crackdown against drugs smuggling, five persons have been arrested and nearly 1,000 kilograms poppy straw and 3.5 kilograms cannabis have been seized in the Ramban district in the past one and half month.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban Anita Sharma while interacting with media persons at Banihal here.
“Huge quantity of contraband including 1,000 kilograms of poppy, 3.5 kilograms of cannabis and some quantity of brown sugar were seized and five smugglers have been arrested in last one and half month”, she informed.
She said police had prepared a list of known smugglers in the area and were in the process of identifying other habitual offenders so that they could be booked and detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
SSP was flanked by Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar.
She mentioned that it is a resolution of Ramban Police to make the district drugs free. She appealed to the general public of the area to come forward and help their police.
