JAMMU, Sept 29: All J&K Rehri, Khokha and Phari Trade Union took out protest rally from Transport Nagar to JDA office near Rail Head complex, here.
Neeraj Gupta State President of the Union along with rehri and khokha workers held protest in front of JDA Office against the demolition of their khokhas and rehris at various zones of Transport Yard Narwal.
While interacting with the media persons, Neeraj Gupta said that in the name of beautification and removal of encroachment, JDA has destroyed the rehris and temporary khokhas and exploited the poor and unemployed youths.
He said that unemployed youths of Jammu who are totally dependent on these rehris and khokhas are feeling helpless as even after assurance by the BB Vyas Advisor to Governor and Vice Chairman of JDA these demolition drives to vacate the land and make a smart city has been continued.
Gupta said that a memorandum regarding the rehabilitation of the rehri, khokha and phari workers has already presented to the Government and Advisor BB Vyas had assured that something will definitely be done in support of these people.
“The copy of memorandum to the Vice-Chairman JDA was also submitted, but even then in the Friday morning the demolition drive was initiated and the khokas and rehris were demolished by the JDA authorities, which is highly condemnable”, he added.
Later, Vice-Chairman JDA met the office bearers of the Union and assured them that their demands are genuine and the Government will definitely take effective measures to rehabilitate these youths. Vice Chairman further assured them that he will take up the matter at the earliest with the Governor so as to allot Rehris and Kiosks Zone to that these youths at the Transport Nagar Yard Narwal or any other places.
Sonu, Paramjit Singh, Gurnam Singh, Sunil Verma, Ramesh Kumar, Amar Chand, Puran Singh, Gopal Dass, Kuldeep Singh, Tarsem, Hukam Chand, Sanju Kumar, Kewel Krishan and many others were present on the occasion.
