SRINAGAR, Oct 1: A mega function was organized here today by J&K State AIDS Control Society (JKSACS) in collaboration with Government Lal Ded Hospital Srinagar on National Voluntary Blood Donor Day.
The Chief Guest of the function was Atal Dulloo, Principal Secretary to Government, Health & Medical Education Department while Dr. Samia Rashid, Principal GMC Srinagar was the Guest of Honour.
The Chief Guest inaugurated a voluntary blood donation camp along-with other dignitaries to mark the significance of the day. Theme for this year’s Blood Donor Day is ‘Happiness in donating Blood’.
Speaking on the occasion Dulloo explained the importance of celebration of the day and also emphasized on the need for gearing up various activities to meet the need for sufficient blood in the functioning of blood banks in J&K.
Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Rather, Project Director JKSACS talked on the importance of donating blood voluntarily and stated that blood is required by all irrespective of religion, caste, colour, creed and region. He appealed people from all strata of life to come forward for voluntary blood donation.
Dr. Samia Rashid, Principal GMC, Srinagar informed that GMC Srinagar caters to a number of Hemophilia patients and most of them are children below the age of 15 years and if safe and tested blood is not made available to them timely it can have serious repercussions.
