Life-imprisonment awarded in murder case

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: Principal Sessions Judge Srinagar Mohammad Akram Chowdhary today awarded life-imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 to Mohammad Yousuf Mir, son of Ghulam Qadir Mir of Panzinara Mohalla Mirpora in tehsil Sumbal, who was facing trial in a murder case.
According to the prosecution case, the accused had committed murder of Abdul Gani Hajam, son of Habib Hajam of Panzinara on 13.06.2009 over some dispute relating to borrowed money.
After hearing both the sides, the Principal Sessions Judge observed, “this court is of the considered opinion that the murder committed by the convict does not fall in the category of rarest of the rare case and it will not be appropriate to award death sentence in the case, instead, sentence of life imprisonment shall serve the purpose”.
Accordingly, the convict was awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 302 RPC. In default of payment of fine, the convict shall undergo further simple imprisonment for a period of three months.
