KATHUA, Oct 3: The Bani police has registered a FIR against a Professor of Degree College Bani for dishonoring the National Anthem in a function which was held in the College premises on September 29 this year.

The police has registered FIR No 69/18 under Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act 1971 ,Section 3 against professor, Dr.Mohammed Tawseef Bhutt after the students of Government Degree College Bani took out continue protest demonstration against the professor of college for dishonoring the National Anthem . The students boycotted the classes and raised protest and demanded the termination of service of professor and legal action against him.
The incident took place when the Bani College was celebrating two years of surgical strike. A colourful programme was organized by the staff and students at Degree Collage Bani on September 29. At the beginning all the students and staff members stood up when the National Anthem was being sung. Controversy started when one of the Assist Professors namely Dr. Mohd Tawseef Butt refused to stand up when the National Anthem was being sung by the students.
He openly refused to Honour the National Anthem saying that it did not pertain to him. The students of College took serious exception to it and protested against the anti- National activity of the professor. The students gave the written complaint to Sub- Divisional Magistrate
Bani, Ajeet Singh and Principal Degree College Bani regarding the anti-national activity and demand stern legal action.
After the continuous protest by the students and enquiry initiated by SDM Bani, Ajit Singh who asked the Bani police to register a case, police lodged the FIR. The matter also sparked protest in nearby village and prominent citizen demanded action as a responsible educationalist dishonored National Anthem which has hurt the sentiments of the people. The police said that it will take action against the professor under the law of the land.
